DescriptionOriginal color 8mm film taken by Keith Griffith on November 22, 1963. Griffith stood just outside Dallas Love Field airport to catch sight of the president's motorcade as it was starting on its route through Dallas. As the Kennedys drive by, Mrs. Kennedy can be seen wearing dark sunglasses; shortly after, President Kennedy asked her to remove them so the crowds could see her more clearly. After the motorcade left, Griffith filmed Air Force One and Air Force Two on the tarmac at Love Field. Later that weekend, Griffith went to Dealey Plaza, filming crowds of mourners, flower arrangements, the entrance to the Texas School Book Depository, traffic on Elm Street and finished with a close-up of the southeast corner window on the sixth floor of the building.
Curatorial Commentary
Keith Griffith's film is one of only two home movies in the Museum's Collection that show Mrs. Kennedy wearing dark sunglasses in the Dallas motorcade. The other is a home movie taken by Dr. A. Jack Jernigan as the motorcade left Dallas Love Field. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
