The headline story details how the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals unanimously overturned the murder conviction and death sentence from Ruby's 1964 murder trial and granted him the right to a new trial, to be held outside of Dallas.
The front page also includes stories about and pictures of Judge Joe Brown, Dallas County District Attorney Henry Wade and Ruby defense lawyer Phil Burleson. Reporters questioned Wade, who stated that he would again seek the death penalty when retrying Ruby. Ruby's defense lawyer Phil Burleson went to the jail to tell Ruby the news and to look ahead to the next trial.
Ruby did not get a second trial; he died January 3, 1967, before the new trial was scheduled to begin.
