Description“Hands Off Cuba!” handbill designed by Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963. The flyer is printed in black letters on yellow paper. Oswald was arrested in New Orleans on August 9, 1963, for disturbing the peace while handing out these pro-Castro leaflets.
Curatorial Commentary
The Museum's collection also includes a home movie shot in New Orleans in 1963 that shows Lee Harvey Oswald distributing these flyers and being arrested after an altercation with three men. The Martin film is available online - please see 2007.028.0001. On May 29, 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald - using the alias Lee Osborne - ordered one thousand of these handbills from the Jones Printing Company on Girod Street in New Orleans. The total cost was $9.89. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
