DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Donald Sawtelle. First lieutenant with the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division in 1963, Sawtelle commanded a "Death Watch" rotation at the White House prior to the president's funeral. He was later interviewed by William Manchester for the book The Death of a President (1967). Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on May 11, 2013, by Stephen Fagin. The interview is forty-two minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary

Prior to this 2013 videotaped oral history, Mr. Sawtelle recorded a telephone interview with the Museum on October 24, 2012.

Sawtelle was interviewed by author William Manchester on April 30, 1964. He is referenced on five pages in the book, The Death of a President (1967). -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
