Curatorial Commentary

German native Léo Sauvage was an early assassination critic, publishing his first article on a possible cover-up in the spring of 1964. He was particularly critical of law enforcement officials who either leaked information or publicly proclaimed Oswald's guilt in front of a huge television audience during the weekend of the assassination. The same month his initial article was published, March 1964, Sauvage entered into a contract with Random House to publish a book on the Kennedy assassination. However, shortly after the release of the Warren Commission Report, a senior editor at Random House canceled Sauvage's book project. It was not until after the highly successful publication of Mark Lane's critical book, Rush to Judgement, that Sauvage was able to secure a new American publisher (The World Publishing Company).
