Curatorial Commentary
After a nearly forty-year break from music starting in 1968, Brown returned to singing in the mid-2000s and is still performing as of summer 2022. She plans to release a new album of music to commemorate her 85th birthday in 2022. Most recently, in early June 2022, she was honored with a two-day celebration by the Community Artists' Collective and Community Music Center of Houston. In an article highlighting the event, the Houston Chronicle called her "the Beyoncé of her time." -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
