DescriptionOriginal 35mm color slide taken by Charles L. Bronson while standing on a pedestal in Dealey Plaza at the southwest corner of Main and Houston streets. This is the second of two still photographs taken on Saturday, November 23, 1963, and was taken from the same location, the concrete pedestal at the southwest corner of Main and Houston Streets, where Bronson witnessed the assassination the previous day. The image shows the same area of Dealey Plaza that was captured in Bronson slide #3 (2017.015.0005.0001), but this image was taken the afternoon following the assassination, Saturday, November 23, 1963. There is a white car and white van in the foreground of the image that are driving on Main Street. A few people are gathered in the center median of Dealey Plaza; memorial flowers are already placed near the curb on Elm Street. Three cars are driving down Elm Street. The pergola in Dealey Plaza is in full view and in the middle of the image. Slide copyrighted Charles L. Bronson 1978.
Curatorial Commentary
On the afternoon following the assassination, Saturday, November 23, 1963, Bronson and his wife, Frances, returned to Dealey Plaza, accompanied by their daughter Charlette. There Bronson took two additional still photographs from atop the same concrete pedestal where he had witnessed the assassination the day before. He also finished up his roll of film by filming additional scenes from around Dealey Plaza, capturing images of the surrounding buildings and floral tributes and memorials.  - Stephen Fagin, Curator
