The comic book is based on the movie, which portrays the actual World War II battle during which Kennedy's PT-109 boat was sunk by the Japanese warship Amagiri.

The front cover of the comic book has a small inset in the upper right corner showing actor Cliff Robertson as Lieutenant Kennedy. The inside front and back covers contain photographs showing scenes from the movie "PT-109."

Curator's Notes

Warner Brother's film, PT-109, was the first theatrical film released about a sitting U.S. president.  The White House received casting approval, and President Kennedy personally selected actor Cliff Robertson to play young Lt. John F. Kennedy.  Jacqueline Kennedy allegedly preferred actor Warren Beatty for the role.

The film was not a box office success and generated mixed reviews.  After being out-of-print for many years, it is now available as a DVD-R "on demand" disc from the Warner Brothers Archive. - Stephen Fagin, Associate Curator
