Gene Gordon Collection
The Gene Gordon Collection includes more than 530 original negatives, contact sheets and prints acquired by the Museum in 2014 and 2016. As longtime chief photographer of the Fort Worth Press, Gene Gordon covered the Kennedys’ visit to Fort Worth in 1963, including the presidential party’s arrival at Carswell Air Force Base on the night of November 21st, President Kennedy’s speech in the parking lot of the Hotel Texas on the morning of November 22nd and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce breakfast in the hotel’s ballroom that same morning. Following the shooting of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, Gordon extensively photographed Oswald’s funeral at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth. The collection also includes Gordon’s coverage of Vice President Lyndon Johnson visiting the Fort Worth area in 1962.
