The photograph was taken by a photographer from The Dallas Morning News.\r\n\r\nThe white hearse appears near the center of the photograph. Its rear is backed up to a door in the hospital building and it is facing outward.  The hearse is parked below a sign that hangs down from the roof and reads, \"AMBULANCES ONLY.\"  The photographer was standing several yards away from the vehicle, looking toward the driver's side.\r\n\r\nThere are four Dallas Police officers standing around the vehicle: three on the driver's side and one in front.  There are several other officers seen in various places in the image.  A man wearing a white shirt and darker dress pants is seen walking on the right side of the image; on the left side of the image, there is a man wearing a long coat.\r\n\r\nThere is a white vehicle parked next to the hearse on the left side of the image.  In the lower right corner, there is a portion of a vehicle.  The windshield and antennae of what might be a motorcycle appears at the bottom edge of the image.\r\n\r\nThe Dallas Morning News photographers recounted where they were throughout the day on November 22, 1963, and some also related their locations in the following days and months when they were photographing events related to the assassination  (such as Lee Harvey Oswald\u2019s transfer or the Jack Ruby Trial).  Their descriptions can be found in the Belo Collection at SMU; The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza's reading room has copies of these accounts available upon request. In cases where the specific photographer who took an image is not known, the potential photographers can be narrowed down to those who said they were at the image\u2019s location.  For this image, Tom Dillard, Clint Grant, Joe Laird and Bill Winfrey are the photographers who were present when the photograph was taken.\r\n\r\nIn his account, Clint Grant specifically listed seeing Senator Yarbrough and the hearse at Parkland, both of which appear in this image's negative strip. However, there is no definitive information to single out Grant as the photographer of this image. - Stephanie Allen-Givens, Collections and Exhibits Manager","The new 1964 Cadillac hearse in this photograph was built by the Miller-Meteor Company for display at a funeral home convention held in Dallas one month prior to the assassination. It was subsequently purchased by Oneal Funeral Home in Dallas, which used it on the day of the assassination to carry President Kennedy's body three miles from Parkland Memorial Hospital back to Dallas Love Field. Oneal continued to use this hearse for several years following the assassination before it was sold to a private collector.
