DescriptionBlack and white photographic print by unknown photographer. Image showes sculptor Felix W. de Weldon standing by his statue of George Bannerman Dealey, presumably in the sculptor's studio. The statue stands on a wooden or cement stand, and there is a support running between its legs. Beside the statue, on the right side of the photo, stands Felix W. de Weldon. His head is almost level with the statue's knee. In the background there are counters with busts and shelves covered with tools.
Curatorial CommentaryThis twelve-foot bronze statue of George Bannerman Dealey was installed and dedicated in 1949 as the centerpiece of Dealey Plaza, the vehicular park that was previously dedicated in Dealey's honor upon completion in 1936. The statue was mounted on a red granite plinth and complemented by a series of bronze bas relief tablets that commemorated Dealey's contributions to Dallas over the years. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
