Image shows President Kennedy's flag-draped casket on a horse-drawn caisson surrounded by members of the military. The road stretches out to the horizon where the United States Capitol building can be seen in the far middle background. Crowds of mourners line the street on either side of the image. A few buildings along the funeral route in Washington, D.C. are visible in the upper right corner of the image on the plate.
The verso of the photoengraving plate is orange. There is one complete and one partial logo for the "Micro-Metal \ Photoengravers' Plates" company printed in black on the orange ground on the back of the plate. The logo is the company's name and product set within a circle around the profile drawing of a Native American figure shown with a stylized headdress. Under the image of the Native American is the text "Made in U.S.A." and an ® symbol. The letters "CP" have been handwritten near the center of the plate in black. The plate has black ink residue present primarily on the top and bottom sides but remnants of ink are visible all over the surface of the reverse of the plate.
