The playbill consists of three sheets of paper, folded in half width-wise and stapled in the crease to create a six-page, vertically-oriented pamphlet. The paper is white; the text and images are black.
On the cover is an illustration of a mustached man who appears to have hair and clothes of the Civil War era; it could be John Wilkes Booth. On top of or appearing to come out of this man's head are other assassins, some illustrations, some taken from photographs; Lee Harvey Oswald appears at the top of the other assassins, and he is holding his rifle.
The text of the cover reads, "Theatre Three presents...ASSASSINS, Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by John Weidman, Assassins is based on an idea by Charles Gilbert, Jr."
Inside the playbill, there are advertisements, lists of crew and their jobs, the cast of characters, a list of the scenes, and a section that gives small bits of information about the actors and the crew.
