DescriptionOriginal 35mm color slide on Kodak Kodachrome Transparency Film taken by an unknown photographer. This picture was taken on Monday afternoon, November 25, 1963, around the time the president's body was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Image shows the Texas School Book Depository building and the Dal-Tex building looking west along Elm Street. For months following the assassination, people would gather in Dealey Plaza to photograph the location and the buildng from which President Kennedy was allegedly shot.
Curatorial CommentaryThe building on the right, 501 Elm Street, was known as the Dal-Tex building in 1963. It was home at the time to Jennifer Juniors, a women's and young ladies' clothing manufacturer started by Abraham Zapruder in 1949. Jennifer Juniors was located on the fourth and fifth floors of the Dal-Tex building, with Mr. Zapruder's office on the fourth floor. The blurry sign seen here on the front of the building advertised available space for rent on the ground floor. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
