Description35mm Kodachrome II color slide, #2 of 20 images, taken by Jay Skaggs from the northeast corner of Main and Houston Streets looking at the south side of Main and up to the third floor of the "Old Red" county courthouse. The image shows people waiting for the presidential motorcade, but it is extremely dark (under-exposed) and few details are visible.
Curatorial CommentaryJay Skaggs' original slide showing the exterior of the Old Red Courthouse prior to the Kennedy motorcade is so dark that no detail is discernible. For a public program on July 26, 2024 (Living History with Gretchen Coben), the Museum's marketing manager, Emily Williams, was able to brighten and enhance the digital image for the first time, bringing out interesting details never before seen. It provides us with one of the best views of Old Red prior to the motorcade on November 22, 1963. This enhanced version is available here as an alternative view of the photograph. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
