Caroline is partially obscured in the image by her brother who stands with his hands tucked behind his back. All three are looking down and to their right.
Uniformed military personnel are visible in the image standing around the Kennedy family; the soldier in the left foreground holds a rifle with a bayonet in his right white-gloved hand. A large white column of the White House portico is visible in the background with crowds of on-lookers visible out of focus beyond the portico steps in the far right background of the image.
A wide vertical black bar is on the left side of the front cover with a caption printed in white text:
