Jim Underwood, assistant news director and weatherman at KRLD-TV, is often seen in photographs alongside Jack Ruby's sister, Eva Grant, following the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald. According to several of Underwood's colleagues at KRLD, this was at Ms. Grant's insistence. In a local PBS interview in 2003, news director Eddie Barker remembered that Grant "thought that our weatherman, Jim Underwood was the greatest thing in the world, and he called her on the phone and went out to see her." Barker also said in his Museum oral history that Grant personally asked Underwood to escort her to Dallas police headquarters on the evening of Sunday, November 24 (when this photograph was taken). KRLD reporter Bob Huffaker added that Grant asked Underwood "to be her press advisor of sorts because she had seen him a lot on television and had listened to him a lot on the radio." Chuckling, Huffaker remembered, "And so there I was placed in the position of sort of questioning my own colleague because he was advising her as to what she might say or not say... just to give her some reassurance frankly, I think, more than anything else." -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
