The photograph was taken by The Dallas Morning News’ Chief Photographer, Tom C. Dillard.

The photograph was taken from the front of the courtroom on the side with the defendant’s table looking out on the room at an angle. The photographer was behind the end of the judge's bench; part of the bench's counter and a purse sitting on it are visible.

Both the defendant and prosecutor's tables are visible, but the defendant’s table is closer to the photographer. There are four men sitting at the defendant’s table: two on the long side and the third on the end. Jack Ruby sits at a corner, but he is partially obscured from view by the man sitting at the end. A man sitting near the center of the table is pouring a glass of water from a clear pitcher.

District Attorney Henry Wade is sitting at the prosecutor's table.

Multiple people can be sitting in the audience.

The photograph has a white border; it is thicker on the bottom than the three other sides.

On the back, in the lower left corner two purple rubber stamps have been applied. One reads, "PHOTO BY TOM C. DILLARD." The second has a rectangular border in which is printed, "DALLAS MORNING NEWS, APR 13 1964, NEWS STAFF PHOTO."</value></field><field label="Classifications" name="classification"><value>Photographs</value></field><field label="Id" name="id"><value>65017</value></field><field label="Width" name="width"><value>25.4000000000</value></field><field label="Height" name="height"><value>20.3200000000</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>22842</value></field><field label="Object" name="culture"><value>Photograph (b&w)</value></field><field label="Description" name="labelText"><value>Black and white photographic print by Dallas Morning News chief photographer Tom Dillard.
