DescriptionA newspaper reprint of The Register newspaper of the North Carolina Agricultural & Technical College (A & T College), originally printed in 1960. The Register called itself "The Cream of College News;" this reprint dates from February 1980, the twentieth anniversary of the Woolworth's lunch-counter sit-in in Greensboro, NC. The front page is taken up with one large photograph of students at the lunch counter and the headline "Students Stage Sitdown Demand". The caption describes A & T College students' participation in the "passive sitdown" at the 40-seat lunch counter at Woolworth's. This image is not available online larger than a thumbnail to protect the copyright of its creator(s).
Curatorial Commentary

The International Civil Rights Center & Museum, which opened in 2010, is located in the historic F.W. Woolworth building in Greensboro, North Carolina. On exhibit at the Museum are the original lunch counter and stools where the Greensboro sit-ins began. The Smithsonian also has a portion of the lunch counter and stools in the collection of the National Museum of American History. - Katie Womack, Collections Manager
