Martin was married to ABC broadcaster Murphy Martin for forty-five years. During the 1964 Jack Ruby trial, she took notes for her husband while he conducted interviews outside the courtroom. Joyce Martin became acquainted with the Jack Ruby family and often sat with them during the trial. 

Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on November 18, 2004 by Stephen Fagin with Murphy Martin.
