DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Jack Lyle. A Dallas public works employee in 1963, Lyle observed the Kennedy motorcade on Main Street. In 1964, he assisted with the creation of Dealey Plaza survey maps for the Warren Commission in 1964 and for Dallas Area Rapid Transit in the late 1980s. Lyle's father, a conservative businessman, was a member of the John Birch Society in 1963. Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on October 28, 2005 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is twenty-four minutes long.

Curatorial Commentary

On the same day as this oral history, Jack Lyle's wife, Juliegh Kathleen Lyle, also recorded an interview. As a nine-year-old in Amarillo, Texas, Juliegh Lyle recalled feeling abandoned by her parents following the Kennedy assassination since both worked for local news organizations. Her late father, Austin Schneider, was news director and chief anchor for the local NBC affiliate KGNC-TV, and her mother, the late Sue Schneider, was composition editor for the Amarillo Globe Times and the Amarillo Daily News. Also at the time of this oral history, the Lyles donated a family oral history on video that had been recorded with the late Sue Schneider circa 2000. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
