Hughes at the Dallas Trade Mart on November 22, 1963, and later traveled with her to Washington, D.C. for President Kennedy's funeral. A longtime community leader, who volunteered during the 1960 Kennedy campaign, Sanders was a noted social rights activist in the 1960s and 1970s. 

Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on January 31, 2006 by Stephen Fagin.
