DescriptionVideotaped "Call to Action: The Gay Rights Movement in Dallas" public program with Ron Jefferson, Monica Greene and Dr. Louise Young as moderator. The panel focused on memories of gay rights activism specifically in the Dallas community. Ron Jefferson was inspired by President Kennedy's inaugural address on January 20, 1961, to devote his life to social activism. He was a gay rights activist in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for several decades. A successful restaurateur and Dallas community leader, Monica Greene was living in Mexico at the time of the Kennedy assassination. A women's rights and gay rights activist for many years, Dr. Louise Young was inspired by President Kennedy and served as a young campaign volunteer in the 1960 election. Since the late 1970s, Young has been active with the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance. This program was part of the Museum's 2006 "Call to Action" series. Program conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on July 12, 2006. The program is one hour and eight minutes long.
