The book was produced by Charles Manos and Lauren Wild. M & W Quill Publishing Co. of Ann Arbor, Michigan own the rights to the book. It has a copyright date of March 1964. The book was lithographed by Braun-Brumfield, Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan.\r\n\r\nThe front cover of the book has a black and white drawing of the president's funeral procession.\r\n\r\nOn the reverse of the front fly leaf is the following text printed in black:\r\n\r\n\"In Memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy\r\n\r\nMany tributes have been paid to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. But perhaps none has been as warm and as unique as this poem \"Six White Horses\" by an American teenager. The poem, about that sad Monday in November, captures for posterity the wonderful, happy relations that existed between the late President and his young son, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Jr. ... 'John-John.'\" \r\nOpposite this page is a black and white drawing of President Kennedy seated behind his desk with \"John-John\" crouched inside the hidden compartment with the door to that area of the desk open.\r\n\r\nThe text of the poem is as follows (throughout the book, text is printed in black on the left and a corresponding black and white drawing depicting the text of the poem is opposite on the right page):\r\n\"Six white horses came today \r\nTo take my Daddy far away.\r\n\r\nMommy said I must be good\r\nAnd stand as big as Daddy would.\r\n\r\nAnd now I am big, so I won't cry. \r\nWhen I see my Daddy wave goodbye.\r\n\r\n'Cause [sic] Daddy is my special friend. \r\nHe always comes back soon again.\r\n\r\nI cannot wave, I don't see why? \r\nThere's just a black box moving by.\r\n\r\nBut Mommy says I should be still. \r\nI'm a big boy now, and so I will.\r\n\r\nI hear some drums; they're awful loud! \r\nMy Mommy's sad and so's the crowd.\r\n\r\nAnd everybody's dressed in black. \r\nBut Daddy soon will hurry back.\r\n\r\nWe're going to take a walk to mass [sic]. \r\nThen maybe I'll see Daddy pass.\r\n\r\nI wonder why we're only three? \r\nHe always comes to church with me.\r\n\r\nTwo men are talking, I can see. \r\nThey said they're very proud of me.\r\n\r\nThey said my Daddy's in that box - \r\nThe black one, with the six gold locks.\r\n\r\nI have on a big boy's suit. \r\nAnd now it's my turn to salute.\r\n\r\nI do it just like big boys do \r\nBecause I have to be one too.\r\n\r\nThey're going to stop and then just leave. \r\nBut in that box how will he breathe?\r\n\r\n'Though [sic] I do not understand \r\nThere's Mommy here to hold my hand.\r\n\r\nHe's going to leave and not come home! \r\nWe just can't leave him here alone.\r\n\r\nI want to hear him laugh and say, \r\n'John-John, come here so we can play.'\r\n\r\nI don't see Daddy anywhere. \r\nI want to cry and I don't care!\r\n\r\nHe's in the ground - he cannot be! \r\nHe should be right here holding me!\r\n\r\nBut Mommy says I must be good - \r\nSo I'll just stand as Daddy would.\"\r\n\r\nFront cover is badly stained, but worst is along spine crease and right side; back cover is stained also. Book in good condition other than cover staining and discoloration.
