DescriptionA White House Secret Service "detail book," donated by a former Secret Service officer who acted as President Kennedy's "advance man." The notebook contains approximately 70 pages of photocopied information including protocols for conducting security surveys prior to events, lists of cars used by the president, staffers who sometimes accompany the president and White House staff according to protocol, details about displaying flags, maps and dimensions for Air Force One, blueprints for presidential honors ceremonies on military bases, order of vehicles for presidential motorcades, blueprints for helicoptors, layouts for stages and ceremonies, and notes and diagrams regarding salutes, honors and ceremonies.

Curatorial Commentary

This White House Secret Service detail book was donated by Gerald Blaine, a U.S. Secret Service agent serving on the White House Detail during the Kennedy years. Blaine was in Austin, Texas, at the time of the assassination. Mr. Blaine recorded a series of oral history interviews with the Museum in 2010. That same year he, along with journalist Lisa McCubbin, authored the book The Kennedy Detail. - Stephen Fagin, Associate Curator
