Curatorial Commentary

This 2009 oral history with Brad Tippit was a surprise on-the-spot recording when Mr. Tippit visited the Museum and identified himself to staff members. It was a pleasure to speak with him, particularly since I had recorded a brief telephone interview with his father, Ronald E. Tippit, in 2007. Ron Tippit's oral history may be heard here: Ronald Tippit Oral History – Works – The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.

In addition to Ron and Brad Tippit, the Museum hosted a special program in memory of Officer J.D. Tippit in 2014, which featured widow Marie and children Brenda and Curtis Tippit. That program may be viewed on the Museum's YouTube channel here: Remembering Officer J.D. Tippit. - Stephen Fagin, Curator

In July 2021, Brad Tippit, then a detective with the Missouri City Police Department, contracted a life-threatening case of COVID-19 that left him in the hospital for several weeks, unable to walk and battling pneumonia, a collapsed lung and a blood clot. Fortunately, he survived the experience and fully recovered. The inspiring story of his rehabilitation at Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital can be found among their "Patient Stories" here: Brad's Story: Helping a Hero | Memorial Hermann. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
The Sixth Floor Museum has several photographs in the Collection relating to the tragic death of Dallas police officer J.D. Tippit. These include images of the crime scene in Oak Cliff, Officer Tippit's funeral and a photograph of his wife and children taken the weekend of the assassination. These images may be found on the Museum's online database here: Thesaurus – Vocabularies – The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. - Riley Harris, Collections Cataloger
