DescriptionLetter sent to Reverend William A. Holmes at Northaven Methodist Church from The Very Reverend C. L. Kimbrough, Director of St. Joseph's House in Sherry, Wisconsin. In reference to a controversial sermon Holmes preached in Dallas on Sunday, November 24, 1963 that was later nationally television, Kimbrough thanks Holmes for his stand against hate and intolerance. Letter is hand-written on letterhead paper and reads as follows: "St. Joseph's House P.O. Box 102 Phone: 652-2414 Sherry, Wisconsin Thanksgiving Day, 1963 Dear Pastor, You are certainly to be commended for your stand expressed over the national television news recently. I wondered what the outcome of your words would be and now understand that you are under police guard. I am, myself, a Southerner and have been much ashamed of 'my people' frequently in the past years, but nothing can compare with the recent shock of our president's death. Be assured of my feeble prayers for you. God keep you. In our Blessed Lord, The Very Revd C. L. Kimbrough Director of St. Joseph's House (Episcopal)"
