DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by Dallas Times Herald staff photographer William Allen. This image shows President Kennedy shaking hands with a horse-mounted deputy sheriff at the end of his speech in the parking lot of the Hotel Texas in Fort Worth on the morning of November 22, 1963. Tarrant County Deputy Sheriff Raymond "Sonny" Fisher, in the background, awaits his turn to shake the president's hand.
Curatorial Commentary
Deputy Sheriff Raymond "Sonny" Fisher, wearing a white hat and riding his personal horse, Snuffy, was the only full-time Tarrant County deputy sheriff on horseback in 1963. Despite his youthful appearance, he was in charge of all of the other law enforcement on horseback outside the Hotel Texas. Fisher recorded a videotaped oral history in 2009 and has also participated in educational programming at the Museum. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
