DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by Dallas Times Herald chief photographer John Mazziota. This image shows a section of the crowd gathered at the Love Field fence the morning of November 22, 1963. One young man stands atop the fence, waving a Confederate flag. Other young people are also perched above the crowd; one waves a Texas flag.
Curatorial CommentaryThe signs on the far right are 1960 Kennedy-Johnson campaign posters. Look closely and you'll notice that the word "Elect" next to "President" and "Vice President" has been torn off. That was likely a clever attempt to turn this out-dated 1960 campaign sign into a gesture of greeting and support for the Kennedys and Johnsons. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
