DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by Dallas Times Herald and United Press International newspaper photographer Darryl Heikes. This image shows the presidential motorcade progressing down Main Street. The motorcycle officer in the foreground is Bobby Weldon Hargis. The vehicle in front of the motorcycles is the Secret Service follow-up car. It was directly behind the presidential limousine in the motorcade. Agents are visible in the back seat and standing on the running boards.
Curatorial Commentary
As or just after this picture was taken, an odd thing happened.  A teenage boy broke from the crowd and ran toward Kennedy's car shouting something like, "Wait, I have something to tell you."  A Secret Service agent stepped off his car and knocked the boy to the ground fearing the teenager intended harm.  Mr. Heikes, along with WBAP-TV photographer Dan Owen, ran to see what had happened but the boy had disappeared into the crowd. - Gary Mack, Curator
