DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by a Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. This image shows President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy greeting the crowd at Love Field on the morning of November 22, 1963. In the top right portion of the image, surrounded by the crowds, Lady Bird and Lyndon Johnson can also be seen greeting people along the fence line. Lady Bird is wearing a pale acorn-shaped hat and her husband is behind her. The images on this negative strip were taken by a Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. There were three photographers at Love Field that day: John Mazziotta, Bob Jackson and Eamon Kennedy. John Mazziotta appears in some of the pictures on this strip so the photographer must have been either Kennedy or Jackson. This negative strip was double-exposed, meaning the film did not advance through the camera correctly and images overlapped. Recent digital scans have allowed the Museum to isolate individual images on this negative strip for the first time. The left-hand portion of this image overlaps with the right-hand portion of the previous image (1989.100.0006.0001exp31A).

Curatorial Commentary

In the top right corner of this image, Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson are visible, surrounded by crowds, greeting people along the fence line. This is one of the very, very few images in existence that shows all four of the Kennedys and the Johnsons together in one picture walking along the Love Field fence line. - Gary Mack, Curator
