TheaterPop CultureRuby, JackDallas"Jack Ruby, All-American Boy" dramatized the life of colorful nightclub owner Jack Ruby, leading up to his shooting of accused presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. The play recreated the actual shooting sequence in a unique way, with the actors performing in slow-motion to evoke the replays shown repeatedly on television after the incident.
Despite its relatively short run at the Dallas Theater Center, the play attracted national attention. Walter Cronkite did a feature on the play on the CBS Evening News on May 14, 1974. The Museum has recorded oral history interviews with playwright John Logan and actor Ken Lattimer, who portrayed Jack Ruby. - Stephen Fagin, Associate CuratorPlayright John Logan's donation included a videotape of Walter Cronkite's nationally broadcast story about the play. - Gary Mack, CuratorPlaywright John Logan donated a copy of the 87 page script (copyright 1964) to the Museum's Reading Room. - Mrs. Krishna B.
