DescriptionA paper schedule showing movie times for the Texas Theatre for the week of November 21-27, 1963.
The schedule refers to two main features: "Cry Battle" starring Van Heflin and Rita Moreno and "War Is Hell" starring Tony Russell and Judy Day. It lists the start and running times for each movie, including times for introductory news and cartoons as well as intermission. A line at the bottom indicates that the next coming attraction is a movie called "Mary, Mary" starring Debbie Reynolds.
"War Is Hell" is the movie that was showing at the Texas Theatre when Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested the afternoon of November 22, 1963. This schedule indicates that the movie began at 1.20 p.m.
Curatorial CommentaryThe donor of this movie times schedule was Samuel Atchison, a student at Sunset High School in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas at the time of the assassination. Atchison worked as an usher at the Texas Theatre on Jefferson Blvd. and was scheduled to work on the evening of Friday, November 22, 1963. His shift was canceled because the theater closed following the arrest of Lee Harvey Oswald. - Stephen Fagin, Associate Curator
