DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Richard Gardner. As a member of the Waltrip Senior High School marching band in Houston, Gardner performed for President Kennedy during his visits to the city on September 12, 1962 and November 21, 1963. Gardner and his brother, Gary, captured multiple home movies of Presidents Kennedy and Johnson between 1962 and 1964, which were donated to the Museum in 2012.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on February 4, 2013 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is twenty-six minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryAs discussed during this oral history, the Museum's Richard and Gary Gardner Collection includes five 8mm home movie segments, featuring President Kennedy's visits to Houston in 1962 and 1963 as well as 1964 campaign appearances in Houston by President Lyndon Johnson (twice) and Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, the Republican presidential nominee in 1964. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
