We recorded a telephone interview on May 25, 2012. When planning my next oral history road trip to Austin and San Antonio, I contacted the Davises about a follow-up video interview. They kindly invited me to their home for this oral history in April 2013.
Individuals who have viewed this interview over the years frequently comment on Ms. Davis's bold and colorful dress. Prior to the interview, she told me that she especially chose the dress since we were recording the interview during Fiesta San Antonio, an annual festival held in April that commemorates the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution in 1836. The Fiesta celebration, also known as the Battle of the Flowers, has been held in San Antonio since 1891 and remains the city's signature public event. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
