Curatorial Commentary
Just in front of the door to the Homicide and Robbery Bureau, a reporter holds his movie camera up high, sideways.  He is supporting it with his left hand while his right hand holds a "pistol grip" - a grip that was usually attached to the bottom of the camera so that the photographer could hold the camera steady.  His camera would have made a silent movie - it was not equipped to record sound.  Also visible in the crowded hallway are other reporters' cameras, lights and notebooks. - Lindsey Richardson, Curator of Collections
