DescriptionMcGraw-Hill Office Door from the fourth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. This wooden door is 80" H x 36" W x 6 1/2" D and has a brass doorknob and a glass window. Black text is painted on the window that reads: 400 McGraw Hill Book Co. College Division Gregg Division Webster Division This building element was recovered by Dallas County after their purchase of the former Texas School Book Depository building in 1977.
Curatorial Commentary
According to an FBI diagram of the Texas School Book Depository, the fourth floor of the warehouse was divided between office, supplies and open storage space at the time of the assassination. The only publishing company listed on the fourth floor in 1963 was Scott Foresman. The third-floor diagram identified the private offices of McGraw Hill Books, Inc. - Gregg Publishing Division as Room 305. Therefore, this McGraw-Hill office door designated room or suite 400 most likely dates from sometime after the assassination in 1963.
