DescriptionOne black and white photographic postcard of a street scene in Minsk, sent by Lee Harvey Oswald from the USSR to his brother, Robert Oswald. The postcard was enclosed with a letter sent on August 21, 1961. Handwritten on the back of the card in blue ink is the following text: "Robert We walk here sometimes Lee" Also on the back is an adhesive label from the Warren Commission with the following text typed and handwritten on it: "Commission Exhibit No. 304 B"
Curatorial Commentary
In their study of Lee Harvey Oswald, Warren Commission investigators gathered a significant amount of Oswald correspondence from the years leading up to the Kennedy assassination. For example, with only one exception -- Robert Oswald's diary, Exhibit 323 -- Warren Commission Exhibits 294 to 324 include more than 30 individual pieces of correspondence from Lee Harvey Oswald to his brother Robert Oswald, dated from November 1959 to January 1963.  This Russian postcard was Warren Commission Exhibit 304-B and was one of three picture postcards enclosed with a lengthy handwritten letter to Robert Oswald dated September 10, 1961.  The other two postcards are identified as WC Exhibits 304 and 304-A, and the handwritten letter is designated WC Exhibit 305.  This particular postcard is reproduced on page 837 of Volume 16 of the Warren Commission Hearings and Exhibits. - Stephen Fagin, Associate Curator
