DescriptionOne original 35 mm negative strip of Kodak Tri X Pan Film cut into three sections showing 17 images. The images were taken by Dallas Times Herald staff photographer William Allen of President Kennedy's speech in front of the Hotel Texas in Fort Worth on the morning of November 22, 1963.
Section 1 contains five images (# 2-6), including one image of President Kennedy exiting the Hotel Texas and three crowd scenes with President Kennedy interacting with audience, and one image of Congressman Jim Wright at the podium introducing Lyndon B. Johnson.
Section 2 contains six images ( # 7-12), four images of President Kennedy speaking at the podium, and two crowd scenes.
Section 3 contains six images (# 13-18), five images of crowd scenes with President Kennedy interacting with the audience, and one image of a deputy sheriff on horseback.
Curatorial CommentaryThe series of images include scenes of President Kennedy interacting with the crowds and their effort to reach out and touch him. They are wonderful examples of how people responded to him. The diversity of the crowd and the pleasure evident on the faces help us explain Kennedy's charisma to younger, school-age audiences. - Sharron Conrad, Curator of Education
