DescriptionVideotaped Living History public program with Christine Lavin. Lavin is an award-winning folksinger and songwriter based in New York who has recorded more than twenty solo albums since 1981. After visiting The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, she was inspired to write and record the song, "The Sixth Floor," which appeared on her album "Please Don't Make Me Too Happy" (1995).
Program conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on August 8 and 9, 2014 by Stephen Fagin. The program is forty-six minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryAlthough Christine Lavin's song, "The Sixth Floor," was released in 1995, Museum staff did not learn about it until around 2002 or 2003 when a member of our collections team heard it online. Some ten years later I reached out to Christine, requesting an oral history about the song and her childhood memories of the Kennedy assassination. She kindly agreed, and we first recorded a telephone interview in 2013. Exactly one year later, she was in Dallas as our guest for the 2014 Living History program series. She did two programs, recorded August 8 and 9, and the video seen here is a combination of those two presentations. At that time, Christine also recorded a new one-on-one video interview for the Oral History Collection. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
