Curatorial Commentary
Vivian Castleberry encountered local nightclub owner Jack Ruby on several occasions. As she recalled in her 2004 oral history, "He liked the press, and he liked to roam around the city room [at the Dallas Times Herald]. And in those days, we had open house all of the time. There was no clearance for anybody to come in. Any nut could walk in off the street, and believe me, they did. I remember the time the exotic dancer came up [with Jack Ruby] with a boa constrictor wrapped around her neck. I mean, it was just wild!" - Stephen Fagin, Curator
Despite this summons, Vivian Castleberry did not testify at the Jack Ruby trial in 1964. - Lindsey Richardson, Curator of Collections
