DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by a staff photographer from The Dallas Morning News. Julian Read, press aide and consultant to Governor John Connally, holds a press conference at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas on Friday, November 22, 1963. Reporters hold microphones near Read's face, and a television camera appears in the foreground.
This negative has some scratches, so the image appears to have several white vertical streaks throughout.
Curatorial CommentaryJulian Read recounted his experiences in the days after the assassination as a press aide and consultant to Governor Connally in his memoir JFK's Final Hours in Texas, which is available in the Museum's Reading Room. - Krishna Shenoy, Librarian/Archivist
Interviewing Julian Read at Parkland Memorial Hospital is WFAA-TV broadcaster Ed Hogan (to the viewer's right, facing news camera). Hogan was dispatched to Parkland shortly after the assassination, and was assigned the thankless task of interviewing crying and confused bystanders outside the Emergency entrance about their reactions to President Kennedy's death. Hogan, however, earned an additional $100 that day since many of his broadcasts were picked up by the ABC network in New York. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
