The top of the first, third, and fifth pages have text aligned to the left:
"The State of Texas [printed]
vs. [printed]
Jack Rubenstein Alias [typed]
Jack Ruby No. E-4010-J". [typed]
There is also text printed and aligned to the right of the page:
"In the Criminal District Court No. 3
Dallas County, Texas".
The fifth page also has "Judge's Copy -- Jury List" along the very top left edge of the page in all caps.
The rest of the first, third, and fifth pages is a pre-printed, lined form with typed names in the left column; the five columns to the right (in order) are labeled "Case", "Excused", "State", "Deft.", and "Taken". At the top of the form on the first and fifth pages is the text: "Form 399" [printed] "MURDER" [typed]; the fifth page has this text crossed and marked through with pencil but it is still legible and visible through the pencil marks. The top of the third page has the same information as the top of page 1, but has "Form 399-A" printed at the top of the form. The second, fourth, and sixth pages have no header and are only the unlabeled columns and lines of the form. Each line on the form has a number printed or typed on it; once the numbers are three digits they are typed onto each line. The first page is numbered 1 through 34, second page 10 through 50, third page 51 through 84, fourth page 60 through 100, fifth page 101 through 134, and sixth page 110 through 151.
Alternating pages have two evenly spaced and centered holes at the top and then the bottom of each page starting with the holes being at the top of the first page. The numbers overlap on the pages where they were originally taped together to form three singular very long pages.
Each line of typed text on the form includes the name of the potential juror and their address including city if it is not Dallas. Beside each name in the "Cause" column are various marks, abbreviations, and comments. Some names listed on the first page have an "x" in the "Excused" column. The "State", "Deft.", and "Taken" columns have numbers on the same lines as a handful of names on each page. The chosen jurors' names and contact information are included in this six-page list, including "Max E. Causey", "Allen W. McCoy", "Mildred McCollum", "Luther E. Dickerson", "Douglas J. Sowell", "R. J. Flechtner", "Gwen L. English", "J. G. Holton Jr. [sic]", "James E. Cunningham", and "J. Waymon Rose".
Same list as L2017.1.69 except without last two pages and potential jurors numbered 152 through 201.
This object was originally part of the evidence collected by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and specifically prosecutors Henry Wade and Bill Alexander during the investigation leading up to the Jack Ruby trial for the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald.
The pages are severely yellowed especially where the pages were likely previously taped together; there are dark brownish-yellow stripes across each of the pages in various locations. The pages were likely originally stapled together because there are staple holes and tears in the upper left corners of the first, third, and fifth pages as well as rust marks from the metal staples on those pages. Corners and edges of papers are torn, curled, and have crease marks. This document is in fair condition.
