DescriptionAudio oral history interview with Barry Gallagher. A fourth grader in Pennsylvania in 1963, Gallagher was inspired in part by the Kennedy assassination to become a high school history teacher. During his thirty-six years in education, he shared with students his firsthand memories of the assassination every November.
Interview conducted by telephone on May 16, 2019 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is thirty-eight minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryBarry L. Gallagher visited The Sixth Floor Museum in spring 2019 and volunteered for the Oral History Project. Following this interview in May 2019, he recommended the project to a fellow history teacher in his school district, Gerald Kim Gallagher, who subsequently recorded his own oral history in July 2019. This is a great example of how volunteers and referrals help keep this Oral History Project ongoing year after year and preserve powerful firsthand memories of the 1960s. If you or someone you know has a story to add to this tapestry of living memory, please contact the Museum at oralhistory@jfk.org. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
