Monica Cochran Oral History

In addition to Monica Cochran, the Museum also recorded an oral history with Dwaine Sides, who was a third grader at Holy Trinity Catholic School in 1963. Like Monica, Sides recalled observing the Kennedy motorcade on Lemmon Avenue. Motorcade spectator Dr. Betty Duke-Ruhd was standing on the other side of Lemmon Avenue, across from Monica Cochran's location. Duke-Ruhd recalled being frustrated because both President and Mrs. Kennedy were distracted by the lineup of students from Holy Trinity Catholic School, and Duke-Ruhd wanted them to look in her direction. So, she yelled at the president, who turned and greeted her specifically. Dr. Duke-Ruhd recorded an oral history with the Museum in 2017 and later participated in several public and educational programs, including this 2019 Living History alongside her high school classmate, Jan Sittel: Living History with Jan Sittel and Dr. Betty Duke-Ruhd. - Stephen Fagin, Curator

The Museum has recorded oral histories with two family members of the late Father Oscar Huber. Dr. Patrick Huber, Father Huber's cousin, recorded an oral history in January 2015. The late Father Oscar Lukefahr, Father Huber's nephew and namesake, recorded an oral history in February 2015 and passed away less than six months later in August 2015. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
