DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Norman Diamond. As a sophomore at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, Diamond recalls following news of the Kennedy assassination alongside fellow student, and future U.S. president, George W. Bush. Currently an art photographer in Dallas, Diamond extensively photographed the 50th anniversary commemoration of the assassination in Dealey Plaza and donated his images to The Sixth Floor Museum.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on July 24, 2019 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is thirty-five minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryThe Museum's Norm Diamond Collection (2019.059) includes more than 200 digital color photographs from the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Kennedy assassination in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 2013. The Museum's Library Collection includes a copy of Diamond's 2019 publication, Doug's Gym: The Last of its Kind, a photography book exploring a fifty-year-old gymnasium in downtown Dallas in its final year of operation and its then-87-year-old owner, Doug Eidd. In addition to Doug's Gym (2020), Norm Diamond published What is Left Behind - Stories from Estate Sales (2017) which explores the legacy of individuals who have passed away, as told through their personal belongings. This project was highlighted in several solo exhibitions in Dallas, Nashville and Vancouver, Canada. Additionally, his work has been featured in several magazines and newspapers.
