DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Dr. Michael Varner. A composer and musician, Varner is Director of Percussion at the University of Texas at Arlington. One of his works, "Stars in the Heart," inspired by the Kennedy assassination, premiered at The Sixth Floor Museum in 2019.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on November 12, 2019 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fourteen minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryThe premiere of Dr. Michael Varner's "Stars in the Heart" at The Sixth Floor Museum may be found here: https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/67539. It was part of an anniversary program at the Museum on November 21, 2019 that also included "Metallic Origami" by Dr. Robert Frank and the premiere of the film score, "3 Hours in Dallas," by Jesus Martinez.
Dr. Varner returned to the Museum to perform as a percussionist in an ensemble for the Jesus Martinez anniversary program, "Echoes from a Memory," on November 16, 2023. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
