DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Chuck Fager. A prolific writer and journalist, Fager took part in the 1965 Selma voting rights campaign as a staff member with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Inspired in part by Martin Luther King Jr., he became an anti-Vietnam War activist. Fager later documented the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign and authored the book, Uncertain Resurrection (1969). Interview conducted over Zoom on August 17, 2022 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is two hours and six minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary
In this oral history, Chuck Fager references some of his books, including Uncertain Resurrection: Dr. King's Poor Peoples Campaign (1969) and Selma 1965: The March That Changed The South (1974). Both of these long out-of-print titles were republished in recent years as 50th Anniversary editions and, as of summer 2022, are currently available in paperback. Another book mentioned during this interview, Eating Dr. King's Dinner, A Memoir of the Movement, 1963-1966, was published in 2014. Chuck Fager continues to actively write and blog via his website, afriendlyletter.com, which includes new and archived articles and links to all of his available publications. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
