DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with George Hess. A Peace Corps volunteer from 1962 to 1964, Hess was teaching in Liberia, West Africa, during both the Cuban missile crisis and the Kennedy assassination. After his return to the United States, he became an anti-Vietnam War activist.
Interview conducted via Zoom on September 2, 2022 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-two minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryIn 2022, I had the great honor of interviewing a number of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who were part of the first group assigned to Liberia in West Africa sixty years earlier in 1962. In addition to Mr. Hess, I had the pleasure of recording oral histories with Nancy Bell, Geraldine Kennedy, Larry Walker, George Vance and Dr. Angene and Jack Wilson. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
