DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Carl Sutherland. At age six, Sutherland saw the Kennedy motorcade at the corner of Lemmon Avenue and Turtle Creek Boulevard. His late father, Dr. Dan Sutherland, was a longtime conservative activist in Dallas and friends with Congressman Bruce Alger and Major General Edwin Walker. Dr. Sutherland, who protested during Adlai Stevenson’s visit to the city in October 1963, was also involved with the anti-Kennedy advertisement that appeared in The Dallas Morning News on November 22, 1963. Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on April 10, 2023 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and two minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary
The individual who contributed a few questions in the background of this oral history was Paul Amundsen, a childhood friend who accompanied Carl Sutherland to the Museum for his oral history. In fact, Paul Amundsen had recorded his own oral history with the Museum twenty-five years earlier in 1998. That interview may be viewed here: https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/17169.
